In today’s remote working environment, where many of us are forced to appear in endless Zoom calls, it’s hard to find the right balance between wearing something comfortable and looking stylish and professional. Many opt for the half-and-half routine; wearing an attractive blouse on their upper half and something more comfortable on the lower half, like tracksuit bottoms or jeans. Below, we’ve put together some tips on achieving balance, every day…

Buy quality clothing

Perhaps the most important thing to consider when planning your outfits is to choose items that are of good quality. Although you can pick up some bargains at discount fashion stores and supermarkets, your best bet is to spend some money on high-quality pieces of clothing that can be repurposed for dozens of different occasions and outfits. Make sure your clothing isn’t stained, old, faded, or worn, and consider traditional Irish clothing if you’re looking for high-quality garments made from materials that will stand the test of time, wherever you are.

Get the right fit

It’s amazing what well-fitted clothing can do for you. Make sure that all of your garments are well-fitting. Although it’s natural to want to go bigger and baggier when we’re trying to find something comfortable, it’s important to ensure that your clothes are both not too baggy, but not clinging to your body. Sizings vary from brand to brand so shop in-store when you can. Oftentimes, you’ll find a pair of jeans or a t-shirt from a brand and fall in love with the shape and fitting – if you do, buy it in bulk in different colors so that you’re always comfortable.

Plan your outfits

When you’re getting ready on a morning, especially when working from home, you might be tempted to throw on the first pair of jeans and t-shirt you see in your wardrobe. However, it’s a good idea to plan your outfits in advance so that you look and feel your best. For example, if you know you’ve got an important meeting in the morning, putting out an outfit the night before means A) you won’t have the mad, frantic rush in the morning, B) you’ll look smart and professional, and C) you can wear something that you know is comfortable and stylish.

Don’t be afraid to accessorize

You can take a plain and boring outfit into something more stylish and sophisticated at the drop of a hat with the right accessories. Whether you’re into scarves and hats or bangles and necklaces, invest in quality accessories that compliment your current outfits, and don’t be afraid to inject some color. That way, you can still wear your “boring” comfortable clothes and continue to express yourself in new and exciting ways with quality, vibrant accessories.

Think about fabrics

Finally, make sure you select the right fabrics when finding new clothes. For example, cotton ribbed knits are comfortable but they’re likely to go baggy, whilst fleece is oh-so-comfortable but will make you look like you’re in your sixties. Shop around and find quality fabrics that offer both comfort and style; there’s a fine line between the two but it can be easily achieved.
